Our process journey...
From hand carved lino prints to art you can WEAR everyday
Connection
The growing and gathering of plants as food, medicine and colour is central to Dalee's practice as an artist. This is where inspiration is born.

Design and carve
The imagery then emerges through a process of drawing and hand carving lino. The manual nature of the carving brings the element of perfect imperfection.
Surface pattern design
Dalee's prints are then handed over to Clarey and she works them into beautiful repeat patterns. Things get technical here setting up the artwork to transfer to silk screen.

Fabric sourced
We went straight to the source that aligned the closet with our ethics. Our knitted fabrics are dyed to our custom weights and colours using all certified organic cotton and certified organic dyes, right here in Australia.
Screen Printed
All our fabrics are screen printed by hand, by our lovely husband and wife team at Printink studios in Melbourne. All inks used are soil association approved, eco-friendly and water-based. They are also produced sustainably using 100% renewable energy and non-toxic ingredients.

Garments designed
Clarey has been designing and making clothing for over 20 yrs and has grown a solid following for her beautiful, functional and flattering designs which have a focus on comfort, versatility and inclusivity.
Cut
Dalee has recently learnt a new skill and is cutting all our garments in house for small batch production.

Sewn
Clarey sews up all of the pieces using her lifetime of knowledge and skills. With a focus on longevity and attention to detail, all we make comes out of our small Lismore studio.
Compostable & Biodegradable
All our packaging is made of the highest quality recycled, compostable and biodegradable materials. We even source and use plant based elastic to use in our garments. Prepare to feel very special upon receiving your garment.

We are commited to zero fabric waste
Very rare in the fashion industry but for us was essential to feeling good about producing clothing.
Our printed fabric offcuts are sent up to Cairns to a small studio where our dear friend Hannah is turning them into sexy intimates. Every piece too small will become the stuffing for some limited edition meditation cushions.
Linen paper
All our linen scraps are being stored ready to fulfil Dalee's dream of making recycled linen paper. Eventually, once we have the equipment in place all our offcuts will be pulped and made into beautiful sheets of linen paper, ready to become the homes for original lino prints.
And it comes full circle...

How all this happened...
Art to WEAR born from relationship
We began working together on a tiny scale back in 2014 when we lived on community together on Banjalang land, Northern NSW where Dalee continues to live.
Dalee hand block printed her original, nature centred, lino artwork onto Clarey's garments which she designed under her ethical clothing brand, Gwyllem clothing.
It was the perfect opportunity for the two artists to really get to know each other by creating something together. From this creative container their friendship truly blossomed.
On a whim, but with plenty of working experience behind us, we began to collaborate on a small collection in Winter last year.
Sometimes you just know you're onto something good. This is how we both felt as we began to piece together what our aesthetic, vibe and values were.
The alignment was right, the flow was there and with relative ease (and consistent work) our first collection is now being born into the world!
We just cannot wait to show you what we have created for you. No detail has been overlooked. Each piece has been thoughtfully developed with both everyday functionality and beauty at heart.
In true collaboration style, we're bringing you the super wearable, comfortable and flattering styles you've come to know from Clare at Gwyllem clothing. Combined with the absolutely stunning earthy artwork and colour palette of Dalee Ella Prints.
These pieces are truly Art to WEAR.
